1 oz KOREAN .999 Pure Silver CHIWOO CHEONWANG
In 2016, the Korean Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) unveiled a new series of gold and silver medallions celebrating the time-honored stories of Chiwoo Cheonwang – a legendary warrior whose numerous battlefield victories earned him the mythological title, “God of War” among ancient Chinese and Korean people. Each release in the series depicts Chiwoo in a different pose as he prepares for war and leads his troops into battle. 2019 marks the 4th release in this popular, limited-mintage series. Chiwoo stands tall on the battlefield, ready to fight the enemy once more. With its .999 pure silver content, limited mintage, and striking design, this latest issue, like all previous releases, is sure to be a hit with investors and collectors alike. The obverse of all medallions in the Chiwoo series share a common design. Featured here is the image of the Do ggae bi on a Chiwoo Cheonwang shield, a supernatural creature believed to protect against evil spirits. According to tradition, Korean people hang the image of Do ggae bi off roof tiles to prevent evil spirits from entering their homes. Engravings on the obverse also include “REPUBLIC OF KOREA”, “1 CLAY”, and “2019 FINE SILVER 999.” This side also features KOMSCO’s latent security engraving of “999” and “KOMSCO” in the center of the design field.
The reverse features Chiwoo in full battle regalia standing tall on a rocky plateau as he gazes upon on the once-active battlefield below. He holds his shield featuring Do ggae bi in one hand and his long sword in the other. “Chiwoo Cheonwang” is also inscribed.
